Pelvis With Contrast

Exam Time

45 minutes

Patient Preparation

All patients should arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment time unless otherwise noted, so that proper evaluation, screening and registration can be completed prior to the scan.

You must have with you:

  • Previous x-rays if requested by your doctor’s office
  • Your appointment form and referral
  • Complete insurance information including your insurance card

Preparations for Pelvis With Contrast CT:

·        Do not eat or drink anything during the four hours before the exam.

·        IV contrast injection will be given.

·        You will be asked to drink an oral contrast agent (barium) which helps outline the stomach and intestinal track in the image. Drink 1 cup at bedtime, drink 2 cups 2 hours before exam and drink 1 cup 1 hour before exam. Another cup will be given just prior to exam.

·        Continue to take any medication prescribed by your doctor unless you have been given other instructions.

Post-Exam

Your CT images will be interpreted by a board certified radiologist from Suburban Radiologic Consultants and the findings will be sent to your physician. Your physician will contact you to share and discuss the results.
